Moving files from the C drive to another drive on a HUAWEI computer

The C drive is the computer's system drive. To ensure the running speed of the system, it is recommended that you reserve certain storage space on the C drive. If you want to move files from the C drive to a non-system drive (for example, the D drive), select an appropriate mode based on the file type. The following describes how to move application software and personal data files on the C drive.

  • System files cannot be moved.
  • If you want to free up space on the C drive, you are advised to move the application software and personal data files first, which are generally stored in the Users folder on the C drive by default.

Moving application software on the C drive to another drive

  • Method 1: Through system settings
    1. Press Win () + I to open the Settings window, and go to Apps > Installed apps.
    2. Find the app you wish to move, click the three-dot icon on the right, select Move, and follow the onscreen instructions to move the app.

This method is supported only by some apps. If the Move option is not available or cannot be selected, the system doesn't support this feature. In this case, try Method 2.

  • Method 2: By reinstalling software
    1. For details about how to uninstall an app, see Uninstalling apps on a HUAWEI computer.
    2. Reinstall the software, and set the installation path to a non-system drive as prompted during software installation. (The installation path depends on whether the software supports modification.)

Moving personal data files on the C drive to another drive

You can directly copy the personal data files on the C drive, paste them to another drive, and delete the files in the original path.
