Capture a window
The UI may vary depending on the system version.
- Use the screenshot tool provided by Microsoft to take a screenshot
- Enter "snipping tool" in the search box on the taskbar and open Snipping Tool.
- Click New. Rectangle Snip is used by default. You can click to select other screenshot modes, such as Window Snip, Full-screen Snip, and Polygon Snip. (Windows 10: Click New. Rectangle Snip is used by default. You can click Mode to select other screenshot modes, such as Window Snip, Full-screen Snip, and Free-form Snip.)
- Drag the cursor to select the area to be captured and take a screenshot. The screenshot will be displayed on the screenshot tool page. You can paste it in apps such as Paint.
- To automatically save screenshots, click in the upper right corner, select Settings, and enable Save screenshots automatically. The screenshots will be automatically saved in C:\Users\Username\Pictures\Screenshots. (Windows 10: Click Save screenshot, follow the onscreen instructions to select a path for saving the screenshot, and click Save.)
- You can use a third-party screenshot tool (such as QQ) to take a screenshot by opening any QQ chat window and click the scissors icon.
- Press + Shift + S and select the area to be captured and take a screenshot. The screenshot is automatically saved to the clipboard. Open any software to which you can paste the screenshot (such as WeChat chat box, Word, or Excel), and press Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot.
If no screenshot is taken after you press PrtSc or Win + PrtSc, you may have set the PrtSc key to Function key mode. Press Fn to switch the PrtSc key to Hotkey mode and try again.
Capture the entire screen
- Press PrtSc to take a screenshot of the entire screen. After the screenshot is taken, you can copy it to other apps, such as Paint.
- Press + PrtSc to take a screenshot of the entire screen. You can then go to to view your screenshot. You can also paste the screenshot in apps such as Paint.
Take a scrolling screenshot
- You can use some third-party tools to take scrolling screenshots, such as the Snagit screenshot tool. You can download a screenshot tool compatible with your computer's operating system from the app store. After the installation, take scrolling screenshots according to the operation guide of the tool.
- Use browser plug-ins or extensions: If you want to take a scrolling screenshot of a web page in a browser such as Chrome and Firefox, you can try screenshot plug-ins or extensions, including AwesomeScreenshot, Fireshot, and NimbusScreenshot.
